Industry Update:
App Store Developer Accounts
For live event producers, app store developer accounts are a lot like permits – there’s no way around them, you’ll need to provide information and pay a fee, and an early start is always recommended. Starting in June 2023, there’s one big change to developer account requirements you need to know:
What’s changing?
Until now, developer accounts didn’t need to be in place until an app was sent to the Apple and Google Play stores for review. This meant the accounts could be created at any time during development. Starting in June 2023, these accounts must be set up before the development process begins in order to build and test your mobile app. If you’re ready to get your accounts set up, we outline the steps for you here.
Will this affect me?
A developer account is required if you want your own app in stores, no matter who builds it. The process is pretty straightforward but it can take 2-3 weeks, so don’t wait to get started!
